Our flock
Our flock is built around two special breeds. The rare Valais Blacknose sheep are known for their striking look, gentle temperament, and growing demand across the U.S. We’re proud to raise and improve this unique breed while helping preserve its genetics. Alongside them, we’re building a strong foundation with registered Horned Dorsets a hardy, maternal breed known for reliability, sound structure, and quality meat production. The valais blacknose
As of 2025, there are estimated to be almost 500 pure-breed Valais Blacknose sheep registered in the U.S.. In addition, there are over 3,000 sheep in various breed-up percentages (F1–F5) working toward higher Valais genetics.

The reliable horned dorsets
Complementing our Valais Blacknose, our registered Horned Dorsets form a robust foundation for our flock at Stepanian Farms. This breed stands out for its exceptional hardiness, strong maternal instincts, and unwavering reliability. Valued for their sound structure and quality meat production, our Horned Dorsets embody our commitment to practical, sustainable farming. They are a testament to our focus on producing animals that thrive and contribute meaningfully to both our farm and our community.
Proper nutrition is one of the biggest priorities in our Valais program.
Our sheep have free-choice access to a specially formulated sheep mineral made just for us by our local feed mill. It’s balanced specifically for their needs to support strong immune systems, healthy growth, fertility, and overall condition year-round.
Along with high-quality hay and pasture, we also feed a 30% protein custom grain mix designed to give them the nutrients they need during growth, breeding, and lambing seasons. Every stage of life requires something different, and we’re intentional about making sure they get exactly what their bodies need.
Quality feed equals healthy sheep and healthy sheep are happy sheep. We believe that investing in proper nutrition is one of the most important ways we care for our Valais.
